Senate debate on the Keystone XL Pipeline is at a standstill. Any compromise appears highly unlikely at this point with a vote not expected this week after the two parties couldn’t come to an agreement last week. Nebraska Rancher Randy Thompson of Martell is one of the landowners who won a court victory against Trans Canada that is now in the appeals process. He says the Senate even voting on the issue is just a sham and they’re ignoring Nebraska’s Constitution.
Thompson says even if the Keystone vote were to be approved in the Senate, the President would veto it and there’s no way they’d be able to override that veto. He says federal lawmakers favoring the pipeline are ignoring citizen’s property rights and backing a proejct that would harm the environment.
Senate Republicans and Democrats are at odds over the pipeline and energy efficiency legislation.
