The end of the 2018 session of the Nebraska legislature is not the end of debate over tax reform.
Senators rejected a plan from Governor Pete Ricketts that would have cut property taxes by thirty percent over fifteen years, largely by controlling state spending.
Senator Tom Briese of Albion says just cutting spending isn’t enough…..
A petition drive is underway to put a property tax cut on the November ballot. Briese says that outcome will drive what happens next year in the legislature…….
Briese says there has to be a tax shift to make a real cut in property taxes…..
Brieses bill would have raised the state sales tax, and used that revenue to offset property taxes.
