The National Pork Producer Council’s Spring Legislative Action Conference wrapped up Thursday in the nation’s capital. Seven Nebraska pork producers attended, including Nebraska Pork Producers Association President Tim Chancellor. He says they talked about the importance of trade and retaining the Japanese market for U.S. pork.

He says it’s critical the U.S. finalizes a bilateral trade deal as soon as possible with Japan.

Nebraska Pork Producers Association Executive Director Al Juhnke says they want farm bill implementation fast tracked and to secure funding for the Foot and Mouth Disease Vaccine Bank.

Juhnke says they also requested funding for 600 new U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agriculture inspectors to strengthen defenses against African Swine Fever and other animal diseases.
