A delegation of Nebraska pork producers visited with members of Congress this week during NPPC’s legislative fly-in. Nebraska Pork Producers Association Executive Director Al Juhnke says they urged lawmakers to provide funding to address antibiotic resistance and establish a foot and mouth disease vaccine bank.
He says they also asked federal legislators to ratify the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement because exports are essential to the success of the pork industry.
Juhnke says a role of their visit on the Hill is to bring members of Congress and their staff up to speed on issues important to pork producers and agriculture in general.
NPPC is backing full allocation of the fiscal 2016 $10 million dollar budget request for the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to implement their antimicrobial resistance plan.
