Nebraska pork producer and rural educator Paul Theobald has declared his candidacy as a Democrat challenging incumbent Republican Congressman Adrian Smith in the 3rd District. Theobald says one of the reasons he’s running is to help improve the economy of rural Nebraska.

Theobald says one of his priorities is to help middle and small sized farmers compete against mega farm operations. He says to help with that the GIPSA rules should have been implemented, as well as Country of Origin Labeling.

Theobald says rising health insurance costs are a major problem for farmers and ranchers as well as small businesses and families. He says that crisis needs to be addressed.

Theobald doesn’t think the Affordable Care Act can be fixed, so he’s supporting providing Medicare for everyone.
