Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown is working with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to find a way to exempt Canada and Mexico from steel and aluminum tariffs imposed by President Trump. Nebraska Pork Producers Association President Darin Uhlir says he’s pleased the two are trying to resolve the trade war problems so those important markets can be preserved.
He says the U.S. needs to be able to move its pork product which is increasing rapidly to export markets.
Uhlir says because America’s pork industry is in an expansion mode, exports markets are taking on even more importance and trade disruptions need to be minimized.
Senator Brown is hoping that discussion over the steel and aluminum tariffs will take place once the North American Free Trade Agreement talks resume following Mexico’s election.
