Despite a recent trade war, the potential for U.S. pork markets in the Far East is growing. While Chinese officials are expected in the U.S. next month to talk about a hopeful resolution to the current trade dispute, the potential for increasing market share in Vietnam is on the horizon. Just back from a trade trip to Vietnam is Al Juhnke, Executive Director of the Nebraska Pork Producers Association. He says they need and want U.S. pork.
He says while it’s hoping we can sell them pork, trade is a two way street and we need to accept their products in return.
Juhnke says Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts led the recent trade mission to Vietnam and he was able to help them gain better inroads into the Vietnamese market.
Juhnke says besides the possibility for more trade with Vietnam and hopefully a resolution with China, Nebraska’s pork producers are also anxious to see President Trump sign the trade agreement with Japan yet this month.
