North American Free Trade Agreement negotiators say they’re working continuously through May 4 when they hope to announce an agreement in principle. Nebraska Pork Producers Association Executive Director Al Juhnke says that’s encouraging.

He says he’s had personal contact with those close to the negotiations and says from those discussions there’s real progress being made on the NAFTA remake.

Juhnke says both Mexico and Canada are important pork customers of the U.S. and it’s critical those are kept in place.

Juhnke’s also pleased U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer wants to have the agreement in principle May 4 and then a text finalized one month later during the first week of June.
