The U.S. Trade Representatives Office will be investigating Vietnam’s acts, policies and practices related to the import and use of timber as well as charges they’re undervaluing their currency. That undervaluation makes their products cheaper and U.S. products more expensive. Nebraska Pork Producer’s Association’s Executive Director Al Juhnke says Vietnam is an important potential customer as pork is their protein of choice and they need the product.
He says what’s unfortunate is agriculture gets caught in the middle of other trade issues.
Juhnke who visited Vietnam in the past says they’re very interested in purchasing U.S. pork.
The USTR’s office will be releasing details of their trade investigation this week in the Federal Register.
