Nebraska Pharmacists Urge Disposal of Prescription Drugs

In an effort to end opioid addiction, pharmacists throughout Nebraska are urging consumers to properly dispose of their prescription drugs.
Pharmacist Bryce Walker says too many Nebraskans just aren’t aware that many people who get hooked on opioids get those opioids from leftover doses left in the cabinet.

Many pharmacies throughout Nebraska have secure leftover prescription disposal sites. The leftover drugs are gathered and returned to their manufacturer for incineration.
Attorney General Doug Peterson says the medical and law enforcement communities have joined forces to get out in front of the crisis.

Peterson says the medical community has been taking steps to cut down on the amount of pain medication prescribed.
