The group True Nebraskans are ramping up their petition drive to place a measure on the 2020 ballot to achieve property tax relief. Spokesman Paul Von Behren says while they would have liked to have seen State Senators pass a property tax relief bill this session, isn’t surprised they failed to do so.

He’s not concerned some have contended their petition which calls for a 35 percent return on property taxes would create a $1.2 billion hole in the state budget. Von Behren says their measure doesn’t hamper the overall state budget that much.

Von Behren says the drive is going very well and they feel good about being able to get the 115,000 signatures they need by July of 2020 to get on the ballot.

He says they’ve recently picked up a lot of support from several ag groups and others backing their petition drive.
