The Nebraska Taxpayers for Freedom group has stopped their petition drive for a property tax relief initiative to be placed on the 2020 ballot. Group President Doug Kagan says their executive committee couldn’t agree on when their campaign should be launched and they were unable to raise enough money for their drive.

However, True Nebraskans is continuing their petition drive to place a property tax relief measure on the 2020 ballot. True Nebraskans Spokesman Paul Von Behren says the drive is going well so far and they’ve picked up quite a few signatures.

He says they need 115,000 signatures by July 10 of 2020 to get on the ballot and their goals is 160,000 signatures. Von Behren says their measure calls for 35 percent relief going directly to the taxpayer.

He says their efforts have not been hindered by the Nebraska Taxpayers for Freedom quitting their drive.
