Farmers that lost livestock in the recent storms can get government assistance to help with losses and carcass removal costs. The Nebraska Natural Resources Conservation Service is offering up to $100,000 in technical and financial assistance to help farmers properly dispose of carcasses through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program. State conservationist Craig Derickson says farmers need to document their losses and signup for the program before July 18.
Derickson says the Initiative is currently available to producers in Stanton, Wayne, Dixon, Thurston, Cuming and Cedar counties in northeast Nebraska.
The NRCS is working to cut down on environmental and health concerns by properly disposing of dead cattle. The agency can also help with windbreak damage, replacing fences and repairing terraces and other conservation practices.
