Nebraska Medicine in Omaha announced they are closing their inpatient burn unit effective September 4th. Those needing extensive care will be transferred to CHI Health St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln. Dr. David Voight is the Burn Co-Medical Director at St. Elizabeth’s and says only those needing inpatient care will be transferred to Lincoln.
St. Elizabeth’s is the only verified burn unit in the region.
Burn patients will still be seen at Nebraska Medicine’s outpatient clinic and trauma center. Patients will be stabilized and a determination will be made if they will be transferred to Lincoln. Otherwise the patient will continue to receive care at Nebraska Medicine. Their burn unit will close September 4th.
