The Nebraska Liquor Control Commission began a hearing Thursday in Lincoln to determine if four liquor stores in Whiteclay can continue to hold their licenses.
The hamlet is adjacent to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, and the four stores sell millions of cans of beer a year, mostly to reservation residents.
One of the first to appear before the commission was Tatewin Means, the Attorney General for the Ogallala Sioux Tribe. She says their headquarters are very close to Whiteclay…………
Means says they have good law enforcement cooperation, at least on the South Dakota side of the border…..
Means says it would be useful if they had more contact with Nebraska law enforcement…..
The hearing is focused on law enforcement in the community, and if the liquor stores are following the law. The commission could make a decision within the next couple of months.
