A major shakeup in Nebraska politics today. Lieutenant Governor Lavon Heideman made a statement this morning in Lincoln………….
Governor Dave Heineman called it a “sad day” in Nebraska………
The protection order was requested by Heidemans sister after an altercation at their mothers home.
Heineman says public officials have to be judged on a different standard…….
Republican Governor candidate Pete Ricketts released a statement: “Last night, I received a call from Lt. Gov. Lavon Heidemann, who informed me of his decision to resign as lieutenant governor and withdraw his candidacy for lieutenant governor.
“I receive this news with a heavy heart. My prayers continue to be with the Heidemann family at this very difficult time. Lavon has served the State of Nebraska with distinction and integrity for the last decade and he has my gratitude and continued prayers.”
Under state law, Heideman cannot be removed from the November ballot.
Ricketts has moved quickly, naming State Auditor Mike Foley as his new running mate.
