The Nebraska Unicameral has reached the halfway point of its 2020 session. Two measures of concern to the Nebraska Cattlemen Association are likely dead for this year’s session. Cattlemen’s Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs Jessica Herrmann says one bill called for elimination of the state brand board while the other called for a revamping. She says her group backed the revamped measure.
She says because there are close to 800 bills under consideration, without priority status, any of those bills are dead. Herrmann adds that discussion may not be done as State Senators may form a task force to study the issue going forward.
Herrmann says the other measure Nebraska Cattlemen want approval on is property tax relief. She believes lawmakers are closer than ever to finding that solution with LB 974.
Herrmann says if State Senators don’t pass property tax relief there likely will be a big push to support the ballot measure calling for tax relief.
