A new Nebraska legislative session has begun and the Speaker of the Legislature expects it will be influenced by some of the tactics used last year.
Speaker Galen Hadley of Kearney expects filibusters to be mounted once again as legislators reject the traditional strategy of trying to prevent a bill from getting the 25 votes needed to pass. . .
Hadley has changed the filibuster rules somewhat. This year, a vote can be taken to end a filibuster after six hours of debate. Previously, a filibuster could last eight hours.
Hadley is among the 11 senators leaving the Unicameral after this session due to term limits. Hadley says each term the legislature loses key people. . .
There are 19 senators in their first term this year.
