A measure intended to protect Nebraska consumers against wide-scale identity theft has passed the Unicameral and awaits the governor’s signature.
Senator Adam Morfeld of Lincoln says his bill aims to prevent data breaches such as the one at Equifax which exposed the personal financial information of 145-Million Americans. It would require companies handling such information to increase their security procedures. . .
Morfeld says it also gives the Attorney General more power to protect Nebraska consumers. . .
Also those suffering a breach could not charge consumers for a data freeze, the highest level of protection in wake of a data breach.
