Nebraska Legislators May Repeal State’s Motorcycle Helmet Law

Nebraska legislators could well repeal the state’s motorcycle helmet law.

Senator John Lowe of Kearney says he has the votes needed to overcome a filibuster against his bill.

Lowe tells senators during legislative debate his bill is about freedom. . .

The bill would repeal the requirement that adults wear helmets when riding motorcycles. It would keep it in place for those 20 and younger.

Senator Robert Hilkemann of Omaha leads the opposition against repealing the requirement that Nebraskans wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle. . .

Yet, the sponsor of the bill says he has the votes needed to overcome the filibuster and force a vote on the bill.

Debate doesn’t resume until Wednesday afternoon when a vote could be taken.
