Farmers and ranchers appealed to the Nebraska legislature’s Education Committee for relief from rising property taxes.
Shane Greczel, a row crop farmer in Knox County, says it is hard to understand how farm income can go down, but taxes keep going up. . .

Yet, public school officials tell the committee a proposal to limit their budget growth is too burdensome.
Virgil Harden with Grand Island Public Schools objects to the governor’s proposal to limit revenue growth to two-and-a-half percent annually. . .

The proposal is the second part of the governor’s two-part proposal to lower property taxes.
Two legislative committees are considering whether to forward the proposals on to the full Unicameral for debate.
