Nebraska legislators have given preliminary approval to a bill to do away with the death penalty.
Senetor Bill Kintner of Papillion argues the death penalty is an appropriate punishment for some crimes.
Yet, Senator Al Davis of Hyannis argues the threat of the death penalty has been abused in Nebraska, forcing innocent people to confess to crimes they didn’t commit.
Legislators approved the death penalty repeal on a 30-13 vote, which…if it holds…would be just enough to override a gubernatorial veto.
