A bill looking to direct more funds to maintain county roads is moving forward in the Nebraska legislature.
LB 237 would allow counties to keep an additional half-percent commission collected from motor vehicle taxes each month.
A minimum of twenty-five percent of the commission collected must go to a county’s road fund while the rest goes to a county general fund.
Senator Sue Crawford of Bellevue, who introduced the bill, says the additional revenue would offset processing fees which are currently paid for with property taxes..
The additional county funding the bill would create comes at the expense of the highway cash fund, something Senator John Stinner of Gering is concerned about…
The bill advanced on a twenty nine to six vote.
