A Nebraska legislative committee is looking into the sale of alcohol in Whiteclay near the South Dakota border.
The panel also will discuss the need for additional funding for law enforcement.
Sheridan County Commissioner James Krotz says the sheriff’s deputies are there often.
Krotz says a jail study done several years ago showed roughly 40 percent of the inmates at any given time were from outside Sheridan County.
Krotz says the governor’s task force that he serves on is making progress.
Krotz says the beer sales there are all legal, but Native Americans cross the border to get alcohol since the nearby Pine Ridge Reservation prohibits it.
