Nebraska lawmakers have advanced a bill that would allow businesses to pay teen workers less.
Senator Jeremy Nordquist of Omaha calls it an affront to democracy, telling colleagues they shouldn’t alter the minimum wage measure passed by voters last year. And Nordquist says all the rhetoric he heard last year about raising the minimum wage rings hollow now.
Senator Laura Ebke of Crete sponsors the bill, which she says will help employ more teen-agers.
Opponents, though, say it goes against the minimum wage approved by voters in November.
