Nebraska Lawmakers Debate “Right to Farm” Bill

A bill aimed at protecting Nebraska agriculture operations was heavily debated by lawmakers on Monday.

Under LB 227 significant changes to an operation, like an increase in size, change of farm type, or change in ownership would be protected against nuisance lawsuits from unhappy neighbors.

Senator Steve Lathrup of Omaha spoke against the bill, and in defense of those it would negatively impact..

Senator Dan Hughes of Venango introduced the bill and says it is vital for the state’s growth….

No action was taken on the bill. the legislature will resume debate later.
