A Nebraska state lawmakers took a shot at a former state senator during debate over forming another Corrections oversight committee.

Senator Tyson Larson of O’Neill opposes forming the committee…and opposes giving it authority to hire outside counsel.

Larson says former Senator Steve Lathrop of Omaha used his position as outside counsel of a similar committee to push a political agenda. . .

Senator Paul Schumacher of Columbus rose to Lathrop’s defense, saying Lathrop dominated the questioning for a reason. . .

The legislature approved forming the committee on a 28-11 vote.
