Nebraska Helmet Law Repeal Falls Short

The latest attempt to repeal Nebraska’s motorcycle helmet law falls to a familiar opponent…the filibuster.
Supporters of lifting the helmet requirement failed to get the 33 votes needed to cut off debate and force a vote on the bill…falling three votes short.
Senator Laura Ebke of Crete supported the bill. . .

Senator Robert Hilkemann of Omaha defended his role in leading the filibuster against those questioning his political allegiance. . .

The bill would have lifted the helmet requirement for those 21 and older. It also would have raised motorcycle registration fees to create the Brain Injury Trust Fund.
