Nebraska Groups Testify Against Property Tax Relief Legislation

This week three Nebraska Legislative committees held a hearing on a property tax relief measure, LB 289., co-sponsored by Revenue Committee Chair Lou Ann Linehan. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says the seven hour hearing brought little support for the measure.

Hansen says while he’s part of a Coalition seeking property tax relief testified against LB 289.

He says it’s likely going to take 33 Senators to support a property tax relief measure that raises some other taxes to help pay for it., as they’ll likely have to overcome the Governor’s veto. Hansen says LB 314, Senator Briese’s (bree-zees) bill along with parts of some others could do that.

Hansen says the coalition backing LB 314 is made up of both ag and non ag groups as well as those in education.
