Several Nebraska Agricultural groups are supporting State Senator Dan Watermeier’s legislation, LB 106 which seeks to change the permitting process for livestock operations. Both county and livestock producers want more predictability and consistency built into the process. Senator Watermeier says there are many benefits from his bill.
Nebraska Farm Bureau’s Vice President of Government Relations Jay Rempe says the changes to state law brought about in LB 106 still leaves Counties the ability to make permitting and zoning decisions. He says however they must be based on facts and matrix system.
The matrix would consider things such as odor, manure management and setbacks.
