Nebraska Senators failed to get enough votes to pass Governor Pete Rickett’s tax relief measure that would have cut both property and income taxes. He needed 33 votes and only got 25. Al Davis with the Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska says the measure is likely dead for this session.
Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says his group along with ICON, the Women Involved In Farm Economics and The Center for Rural Affairs all opposed LB 947, the Governor’s bill for a variety of reasons.
Hansen says the ag groups that opposed LB 947 are backing Senator Tom Briese’s property tax relief bill that’s been amended to LB 1103. He says they don’t have much time this session to get it approved however.
Hansen says Lb 1103 could be debated later this week. He adds their group’s are also backing a petition drive calling for property tax relief.
