One of the agricultural priorities for Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts in the next Unicameral will be revising the state’s property tax program. That’s after an unsuccessful attempt in the 2017 session. Property tax relief is also a goal for the state’s farm groups, especially in this time of low commodity prices. Lt. Governor Mike Foley says they think issue is too important to agriculture and the entire state to not find a workable solution.
He says it’s unfortunate they were unable to come up with a property tax plan that could garner the support of agricultural groups and pass in the legislature, but he says they’re not giving up.
Another priority for the Governor will be to select a new Director of Agriculture to replace Greg Ibach when he is confirmed as a USDA Undersecretary.
Foley says they’re excited to have such good midwestern representation in USDA with Ibach and the other nominees.
