Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts has reached out for advice on how better to deal with the Unicameral.
Ricketts succeeded in holding down state spending and putting more money into property tax relief last yer. He failed on three major issues when the Unicameral overrode his vetoes, most notably in its repeal of the death penalty.
Ricketts since has talked with retired politicians Democrat Ben Nelson and Republican Mike Johanns, who both served as governors before being elected to the United States Senate. . .
Ricketts says he knows lawmakers better and will communicate better with lawmakers.
Ricketts says he doesn’t believe he could have done anything differently to avoid the three veto overrides.
