Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts has vetoed a bill which would have allowed former felons to petition the court to have their conviction set aside after their release from prison.
Ricketts says the bill would weaken confidence in the criminal justice system. . .
Ricketts sees no need for a change. . .
Current state law allows those fined or placed on probation to petition the court to have their conviction set aside. The bill would have expanded that to include those sentenced to prison.
It would take 30 votes in the legislature to override the veto.
