Critical issues of taxes and funding government tend to dominate the agenda at the Unicameral each year. Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts says some state senators are fixated on raising taxes and want a special session, something he is against.
Ricketts says controlling spending in state government is the key to eventually gaining tax relief. He says the state will continue down that path.
Ricketts says his proposal would have phased in relief over time without raising taxes. The tax cut package being proposed for the ballot is a $1.1 billion property tax cut that would provide a refundable income tax credit of 30% for the portion of property taxes which go to public education.
