Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts rejects criticism the state failed to be completely open when it executed Carey Dean Moore last month.
Critics have focused on the 14 minutes the curtain was lowered during the Moore execution, blocking the view of state witnesses.
Ricketts says the state routinely dropped the curtain in the execution chamber in the past when it used the electric chair. . .https://soundcloud.com/wnax-radio/ricketts-910a
The Moore execution was the first execution since the 1997 execution of Robert Williams and the first by lethal injection.
It might be the last, at least for a while. The state’s supply of the main lethal injection drug has expired.
Ricketts acknowledges the state cannot carry out any more executions without the potassium chloride and the drug has been difficult for states to obtain for executions. . .https://soundcloud.com/wnax-radio/ricketts-910b
Ricketts praises the Department of Correctional Services for carrying out the execution in a professional manner.
