Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts is in China this week leading a trade mission. He says their group had an opportunity to tour King Bull, a Chinese Cattle company that’s working on crossing breeds.
Ricketts who’s working on opening more market opportunities for Nebraska ag products was asked about President Elect Donald Trump’s negative stance on trade and how that might effect future trade deals. He says prior to the election he spoke with Trump and is hoping to help him understand the importance of trade to the U.S. economy.
Ricketts says he’s expecting China in the near future to open their market to U.S. beef partly because they’re consumers are wanting it.
While in China, the Governor had a chance to attend an agricultural fair where Nebraska companies were participating. He says last year that fair attracted 1.6 billion people over the five day event.
