Nebraska Governor Lauds Tax Relief At Session’s Close

Thursday, Nebraska Lawmakers wrapped up their 2014 session. Governor Dave Heineman says it was a very good one for the state’s taxpayers as Senators approved over $ 412 million in tax cuts over five years and made headway toward significant tax reform.

Heineman says it was critical property taxes were addressed by providing relief as ag land valuations have gone up rapidly and are now 29 % over last year’s levels.

The Governor says he expects more tax relief to be passed next year when the legislature reconvenes.

He says they were able to achieve tax relief this session partly because they were able to use a portion of the state’s record high cash reserve fund and because of Nebraska’s growing economy.
