Nebraska Governor Announces Action Plan For Slow Farm Economy

Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts was joined by farm group leaders at Husker Harvest Days to introduce an action plan to help farmers survive the tough economic cycle in farming and grow Nebraska agriculture. Ricketts says it starts with property tax relief. He says they made good progress in the last legislative session with tax reform with LB 958 and 959. However, even more aggressive action needs to take place this year.

He says another key is expanding trade and the state has held trade missions with Japan and most recently Taiwan. Plus, they’re urging lawmakers to pass the Trans Pacific Partnership.

Ricketts says the burden of regulation is also costly to farmers and the EPA needs to be stopped.

He says they also continue to work with EPA to raise the mandated renewable fuels levels on the Renewable Fuel Standard.
