One of the more positive pieces of legislation for agriculture coming out of the 2014 Nebraska Legislative session which wrapped up last week was passage of a major water bill.  Governor Heineman says because Nebraska is the number one state for irrigation, it’s a critically important measure for the state’s farmers and ranchers.

The Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association backed the bill.  Cattlemen’s Legislative Director Laura Field says one of the best components of the measure is the  makeup of the water sustainability board that’s created with the bill’s passage.

Field says not only is agriculture well represented on that panel but having that in place will help with water availability and funding issues moving ahead in the future.
