An effort to crack down on human trafficking in Nebraska is underway.
The state has received a 1-point-5 Million dollar grant from the Department of Justice both to enhance law enforcement and serve the victims.
Attorney General Doug Peterson says the state law creating the Nebraska Human Trafficking Task Force targets both sex and labor trafficking. . .
Under the grant, 600-Thousand dollars goes to the Attorney General’s office with 900-Thousand going to the Salvation Army to serve the victims of human trafficking.
Peterson says the task force will shift the focus of law enforcement away from the victim. . .
Peterson says too many Nebraskans believe human trafficking doesn’t occur in the state. He says recent arrests should convince Nebraskans otherwise.
