Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Looks to Open Land for Hunters

Approximately 97-percent of land in Nebraska is privately owned, but the Game and Parks Commission wants to open some of that up to hunters.

The private property would be included in the Commission’s Open Fields and Waters Program.

Lindsey Messinger is overseeing a survey of hunters to learn more about what type of land should be part of the program.

Messinger  says they want to know who hunters are in Nebraska, what kinds of properties they like to use, and what they are hunting.

Messinger says non-hunters will be surveyed as well, if they are at the hunting spot.

She says the information will help determine what type of land to include in a program that gives hunters access to private property.
