Nebraska Farmers Union Wants Congress To Approve A Farm Bill Extension

The House-Senate Conference committee failed to pass a new farm bill before the September 30 expiration date of the 2014 farm bill. Conference members have indicated there won’t be an extension. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says his group will try to convince them to pass at least an extension if not a full measure soon.

He says it’s critical Congress pass some type of farm legislation because farmers need certainty during these tough economic times.

Hansen says not only do they need to approve farm legislation before the lame duck but as soon as possible.
ansen says conferees were challenged by the fact the House and Senate farm bills were so far apart in their approaches it made it difficult to find middle ground.
