The Nebraska Farmers Union has sent a set of written guidelines to how they want to see the various small meat processors funded through USDA monies. That USDA money is being provided through the Biden administration’s efforts to expand small meat processing facilities. Farmers Union President John Hansen says they want funding for those USDA inspected plants that are already in place.

He says they also want funding provided to custom slaughter inspection facilities and help them become USDA inspected operations so they can sell across state lines and to restaurants and grocery stores.

Hansen says it’s also important custom slaughter plants that don’t want to become USDA inspected get funding also through the administrations expansion efforts.

Hansen says some funding should also go to Mobile Processing facilities that take both turkeys and free range chickens
