Telling White House officials, the many issues facing rural America, John Hansen, the president of the Nebraska Farmers Union was invited Friday to participate in a virtual meeting sharing information about the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act”.  Hansen says financial support from the federal government is needed to help with several areas in rural America, ranging from bridge repairs and replacements, to health care, and even the installation of high speed broadband internet.  Hansen says many counties and even the state can’t afford to finance all of the needs in rural areas.

Hansen says many times the funding for major rural projects is derived from property taxes.  He says when the federal government steps up to assist, local property owners get a break.

The Nebraska Farmers Union president says the Biden Administration has promised to help fund the expansion of high speed broadband internet to rural areas.

Hansen says $65 million dollars will be devoted to help with wildfires.
