Nebraska Farmers Union members approved six special orders of business at their recent convention in Norfolk and re-elected John Hansen to his 16th two-year term as President. Hanson says the biggest policy challenge they face is convincing the legislature and governor to pass significant property tax relief.

He says another special order of business allowing industrial hemp production has a much better chance of being adopted.

Hansen says they also approved policy to modernize the way Nebraska handles state economic incentives.

Hansen says other priorities include the need to update net metering, which is a billing mechanism that credit solar energy system owners for the energy they add to the grid. They also backed expansion of high-speed broadband and addressing climate change.
