Two House lawmakers have written President Obama expressing deep concern with the Environmental Protection Agency’s plan to expand federal jurisdiction over waters in the United States. Nebraska Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson who was in the nation’s capital last week says his group is also concerned with EPA’s defining just about anything as a navigable water of the U.S. subjecting it to regulation and overreaching their authority.
Nelson says EPA’s definition goes beyond reason and would cause regulation over areas that are typically farmed
In their letter to the President, the House leaders said that unilaterally broadening the scope of the Clean Waters Act would adversely affect the nation’s economy,, threaten jobs and invite costly litigation and restrict landowner’s ability to make decisions about their property.
