Nebraska Cattlemen Association and Farm Bureau members want the Unicameral to pass LB 227, the Right to Farm Law that’s been amended. Cattlemen Vice President of Legislative Affairs Laura Field says the measure is needed to protect agricultural operations from needless lawsuits and to allow for their growth.

She says the current Right to Farm statute has good protections, but needs reform to guard against nuisance lawsuits.

Field doesn’t believe the legislation takes away from local control but actually adds to what county zoning boards are able to do when either approving or denying permits.

Field says there’s another round of debate yet scheduled on the measure, so they still have time to get legislators to approve it.
