Property tax reform at the state level is the top priority for Nebraska Farmers Union members coming out of their recent convention. President John Hansen says part of the answer to addressing rising property taxes is to increase sales and income taxes.

He says their members also want Congress to get moving on a new farm bill as soon as possible. Hansen says the farm safety net provisions need to be fixed.

Hansen says Congress needs to address the ag economic downturn with part of the answer being to boost farm loan funding at the national level.

Hansen says their delegates also heard about what agriculture can do to address climate change by building soils and soil health.
