Nebraska Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson and State Cattlemen Association President Mike Drinnen joined Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse on a tour of flood damaged areas of Nebraska on Friday. Nelson says it’s good the Senator wants the USDA to provide additional flexibility with the Livestock Indemnity Program as well as with other flood aid.
He says it’s also important that aid programs get out to those effected by the flooding as soon as possible.
Nelson says they’re also working with Senator Sasse to get relief for growers who have flood damaged grain because they aren’t currently covered by federal programs.
Sasse also wants the narrow definition of winter storm to be waived. It currently requires three consecutive days, which does not adequately cover the fast moving and extreme weather conditions that Nebraskans faced.
